The State of Dublin hosted by thejournal.ie

Dublin City councillors take to the stage in this public debate examining local government in the city.

Outside of national government, there are 31 local authorities with 949 councillors who effectively ‘run the country’. Each administration governs everything from bin collection to street cleaning and local housing. To find out exactly what our councillors are doing, we turn to the largest local authority in the country, Dublin City Council, for answers.

Faced with random topics from thoughts on the current government to power plays at a local level, we grill 7 brave city councillors; Lord Mayor Mícheál MacDonncha, Cllr Ciarán Cuffe,  Cllr Mannix Flynn, Cllr Deirdre Heney, Cllr Dermot Lacey, Cllr Cieran Perry and Cllr Norma Sammon who will spill the beans on what it means to be locally elected representatives in 2017. Online questions will be provided in advance by the public.

Susan Daly, The Journal’s editor will chair this  lively event.
