To coincide with Universal Children’s Day and as we acknowledge the 25th Anniversary of Ireland’s ratification of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), The Ark & Festival of Politics have invited Dr Niall Muldoon, Ombudsman for Children to give a talk for adults of all ages.

Dr Muldoon will paint a picture of children’s rights in Ireland and illustrate how things have changed since the establishment of his office. The audience will gain an insight into how the UNCRC works and how it has enabled some of the recent changes in the field of children’s rights.

The Ark was founded 22 years ago in response to Ireland’s ratification of the UNCRC. Its mission, vision and values are informed in particular by Article 31 of the convention. This event is being presented in line with the Ark’s advocacy priorities. In the belief that children have a right to art and culture as part of their learning and development The Ark is committed to:

  • Playing a part in raising public awareness of every child’s right to culture, in partnership with other like-minded organisations in civil society;
  • Making the case for the inherent value of art in children’s lives with government and other policy makers;
  • And promoting the voice of the child inside and outside of The Ark.
